Curtis Park Village

This was our statement to the Planning Commission about Curtis Park Village on February 26, 2010.

As the city makes plans for the remaining infill development projects we recognize the need for these projects.  However, we would like to remind you, that the city needs to be sensitive to the neighborhoods and the neighborhood’s needs should be seriously considered.

Once an older, historic neighborhood like Curtis Park is destroyed, it can never be repaired.  These older neighborhoods are the treasures of this city. Please do not bow just to the developer in this case.

The scale of the commercial buildings are too large and so the neighbors ask that they be compatible with the historic neighborhood.   If the commercial space is out of character with the neighborhood, it just will not fit.

Please consider the need for connectivity which is a component of sustainable development.  Due to this, there needs to be a commitment for providing a foot bridge between the development and the college.

Lastly, given the concern about toxics at the site, the Department of Toxic Substances Remedial Action Plan must be made available for public review prior to the final approval of the Curtis Park Village environmental documents and application.
