President's Message - June 2010

The new 2010-2011 MENA board has some really energetic board members this term, so I am personally looking forward to more progress and accomplishments.  I have worked hard for the past few years as the Land Use Co-Chair and I am delighted to now help steer MENA as the new President for the 2010-2011 term.

Since MENA’s inception in 1992, we have been serving the entire East Sacramento neighborhood. We are focused on revitalizing our Membership Committee and doing more outreach to our members.  Our goals include using more electronic messaging and relying less on paper.  This is not only a better environmental friendly decision; it will allow us to reach more members in a timely fashion.  We will however accommodate the needs of those that do not use a computer to communicate.

As you may know, MENA is hosting EastSacWatch.com, a website for your use.  This will help you and your neighbors know what is going on in the neighborhood.  You can receive alerts about any crime activity or any other useful information about your neighborhood.  If you see suspicious behavior, you can post this information on the website.  Please check out the link to EastSacWatch on our website, www.eastsac.org.

We have been following McKinley Village and the Cannery Business Park Rezone very closely.  While they are both currently on hold, we anticipate that as the economy rebounds, these projects will be reactivated.  Our goals, as always, are to protect this neighborhood from unduly burdensome development and secure adequate mitigation from any projects that are built within this area.  We work closely with the city and the project proponents to ensure livability and safety for residents.  We continually emphasize high quality community standards that are accommodating to walking, biking, and other leisure activities.

Please view our website at www.eastsac.org to see the support we are offering for Stop and Smell the Roses, Pops in the Park, the library, Rose Garden, Welcome to East Sacramento sign and flowers, Tennis Court resurfacing etc.

Although we have a new board, we are continually in need of your time if you want to volunteer.  If you do not want to volunteer, we understand, and we will not ask you to do anything except pay your dues once a year - and, hopefully, tell your neighbors and friends that MENA is a great organization to support!

The entire board looks forward to your comments or suggestions so please do not hesitate to contact us! We are open especially to hear where we need to improve.  This is your neighborhood and we see ourselves as involved neighbors because we all love living here.

Nancy Cornelius

MENA President
